Whether it’s your guilty pleasure or your open obsession, there’s no denying the entertainment value that the “The Bachelor” franchise brings to our television sets on Monday nights. And though it doesn’t have the best track record of leading to lasting love, the aftermath of the insane breakups provides mounds of gossip fodder we always lap up. After proposing to contestant Hannah Ann Sluss in Australia, producers and a camera crew tagged along a few weeks later as Peter later changed his mind and dumped her — essentially explaining he still had feelings for the runner-up, Madison Prewett, who had opted to send herself home prior to his proposal. A messy reunion ensued live after the finale aired, with Hannah Ann confronting him and uttering the pretty scathing line that will go down in Bachelor Nation history: “If you want to be with a woman, you need to become a real man. Keep reading to take a stroll down memory lane and relive more of the most dramatic breakups in franchise history…. The messy breakup that created an entirely new episode of television for ABC? That was Jake Pavelka and Vienna Girardi’s nightmarish end. Throughout Season 14 of “The Bachelor,” Vienna was portrayed as the villain as she butted heads with the other women on her way to the top. And though Jake didn’t mind warnings from the other ladies, only seeing the good in Vienna all the way through, their relationship imploded shortly after the finale episode. Their vicious words against each other caused ABC to give them even more television in — a sit-down mediated by host Chris Harrison in which both were given the opportunity to air their side of the story.

The series was set in a fictionalized version of Manhattan ‘s 14th Precinct known as “Midtown South”. The pilot movie had Loretta Swit in the role of Cagney, while the first six episodes had Meg Foster in the role. When the show was revived for a full season run, Gless played the role for six consecutive years. During those same six years, one of the two lead actresses won the Emmy for Best Lead Actress in a Drama four wins for Daly, two for Gless , a winning streak matched only once since in any major category by a show.
Producer Barney Rosenzweig was influenced by the feminist movement through his then-girlfriend Barbara Corday , who recommended to him Molly Haskell ‘s book From Reverence to Rape. No studio wanted to make the film, so Corday considered taking it to television. Rosenzweig took the script, removed the main plot leaving only the character development , and took it to all networks, but only CBS picked it up.
When the movie was picked up as a series, first airing with six episodes as a midseason replacement in the spring of , Meg Foster portrayed the character. When the show was picked up for a regular season in , Foster was replaced with Sharon Gless because CBS deemed Foster too aggressive and too likely to be perceived as a lesbian by the viewers. CBS executives hoped Gless would portray Cagney as more conventionally “feminine” and attempted to pressure the producers to remake Christine into a more “high-class”, snobbish woman from wealthy parents.
Barney Rosenzweig and Barbara Corday initially refused to change Christine Cagney from a tough, witty, working-class woman. Shortly into Gless’s tenure on the program, Rosenzweig and Corday compromised with the network brass. They further developed Cagney’s background, explaining gradually in a loose storyline that she may have been born to a somewhat well-to-do professional mother, Maureen, who had a relationship with police officer Charles Cagney Dick O’Neill , who came from working-class roots.

Whereas couples on that series tended to hook up and stay hooked up all season, making for boring episodes, things look a lot more fluid on this show, at least judging by the premiere. But then Marcus gave a rose to Lacy, which threw Robert for a loop and now it looks like Marcus is the one Lacy wants after all.
Just like on those franchises, there are date cards and roses to hand out at the end of episodes. And this week, the men were handing out roses; next week it will be up to the women. Elise was already confessing that she wanted to tell Dylan she loved him. Does this make me want to pursue Graham more? Because Reality Steve seems to think you became engaged to this woman during the season finale of Bachelor in Paradise which is apparently a thing.
But us journalists were quickly shut down when we asked questions about either the engagement or being on the reality spinoff. So instead, our ears were filled with soft answers, like his dating life is “nonexistent” and that he’s actually still trying to get over Andi. If you don’t remember, Marcus was the first one out of this batch to tell Andi he loved her.
